Meal Planning Got You Down?

Dear Working Parents,

Ah, meal planning. Say the word, and a parent who was previously in a good mood will likely give you a death stare. Gosh darn it, why do we have to keep feeding these kids (and ourselves) every day!

If meal planning ever gets you down, this fun summer read by Jane Yamaykin, Mindful Return alum and also Mindful Return’s Director of Employer Experience, is for you. I like how she’s removing a mental load obstacle, purely for the sake of simplicity.

Read it here and get some summer meal ideas: Meal Planning Got You Down? Move the Mental Load Tire.

#AmplifyVoices

This month, we celebrate Disability Pride Month, to commemorate the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). And today, now that I have a high schooler who has been required to read Shakespeare, I'd like to call out PBS's work, "Creating an Inclusive Richard III." (Go watch the clips on this webpage - they are fablous!)

Savoring the Second
Half of Summer!
We Start on Monday!

You know how by the end of July, summer feels like it is sprinting to a close? This year, I'm doing an experiment to see if I can savor it more and make that part of summer feel slower and more delicious. Want to join me?

For the 4 weeks from July 20-August 14, I'm leading an accountability group on WhatsApp. Each weekday morning, I'll be posting a thought-provoking prompt in the chat related to one of the following 5 S's:

  • Mondays: Steady
  • Tuesdays: Self
  • Wednesdays: Silence
  • Thursdays: Surprise
  • Fridays: Silliness

Cost is $99. Given it will be on WhatsApp, you can join in from anywhere. If you want to join me for this intentionality quest, simply hit reply and say "count me in!" and I'll get you signed up.

Parents at Work Podcast

In this episode of Parents at Work, hosts Lori Mihalich-Levin and Jason Levin welcome Julie Talbot, CEO of Lansinoh Laboratories. Julie shares her personal journey through IVF, becoming a first-time mom during the pandemic, and leading a global brand dedicated to supporting families. She discusses the importance of empathy, flexibility, parental leave, and creating workplaces where parents don't have to choose between career success and family life.

Mindful Return Book Talks

September 17, 12–1pm Eastern: The Setback Cycle - Join me in conversation with Amy Shoenthal. In this thoughtful and practical conversation, we’ll explore how setbacks — from career disruptions and burnout to caregiving challenges, identity shifts, and unexpected life changes — can become catalysts for growth, reinvention, and transformation. We’ll talk about the four phases of The Setback Cycle, why defining moments often shape us in powerful ways, how working parents can navigate uncertainty and transition with greater self-compassion and resilience, and practical strategies for moving forward when life doesn’t go according to plan. The Setback Cycle offers a compassionate framework for understanding how difficult moments can ultimately move us toward greater clarity, confidence, and possibility. Register here.

Tips on living a calmer life as a working parent sent to your inbox every weekend Slow Down, Summer!! Dear Working Parents, The July 4th holiday in the US always feels to me like the mid-point of summer...the downhill part of the roller coaster flying forward after that, until the start of school. I don't think I'm mathematically correct that it's a mid-point for my kids, given they don't head back to school until late August, but for those of you whose kids got out in mid-May, perhaps it is?...
